The University of Texas at San Antonio is located in northwest
San Antonio. The University was established by the Texas
Legislature in 1969 and opened to graduate students in temporary
facilities in 1973. Undergraduate programs have been offered
since 1975 when the university moved to the permanent 600-acre
campus. A comprehensive metropolitan university, UTSA serves
the needs of the multi-cultural population of San Antonio
and South Texas, emphasizing programs that contribute to
the technological, economic and cultural development of
the city and region. UTSA also serves the state, nation
and world with selected programs, reflecting the University's
strengths. The University has an outstanding faculty of
over 550 teachers and scholars who serve a student body
of over 17,000 and who have built solid, demanding undergraduate
and graduate programs. UTSA offers 52 baccalaureate degrees,
33 Masters degrees and three Ph.D. degrees. The University
is committed to a multi-disciplinary philosophy to encourage
interchange among the disciplines as demonstrated by its
organization into 14 divisions, rather than departments,
in the colleges of Business, Fine Arts and Humanities, Social
and Behavioral Sciences and Sciences and Engineering.
