Texas Woman's University is a comprehensive public university, primarily for women. TWU's main campus is located in Denton, a city of 67,000 located about 34 miles north of Dallas and Fort Worth, the nation's ninth largest metropolitan area. The TWU Institute of Health Sciences Dallas and Houston Centers (near Parkland and Presbyterian hospitals in Dallas, as well as the Texas Medical Center in Houston) provide students with practical clinical learning experiences. TWU enrolls almost 9,800 students. The university has more than 500 faculty members and 700 staff at its four locations. Within TWU are three major academic divisions: the University General Division, which includes the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Library and Information Studies and the College of Education and Human Ecology; the Institute of Health Sciences, which comprises the College of Health Sciences, the College of Nursing, the School of Occupational Therapy and the School of Physical Therapy; and the Graduate School, which administers programs in each of the other schools and colleges. The university conducts an intensive English exchange program for Japanese students from Mukogawa Women's University and Baiko Jo Gakuin in Japan. TWU also participates in the "Partnership for Peace" cooperative program with the U.S. Peace Corps, which permits registered nurses to integrate their advanced degrees in nursing with international experience.
