The University of Texas Health Science
Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA)
Located in the "Alamo City" of San Antonio, Texas, is the UT
Health Science Center, a biomedical educational and research institution
opened in 1968. The University is comprised of five component schools and
an Institute of Biotechnology. About 2,360 students pursue the Doctor of
Medicine, Doctor of Dental Surgery, Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of
Pharmacy, Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees as well as
certificates in postgraduate dental specialties and certain allied health
fields including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Clinical
Sciences. The University receives in excess of $100 million dollars in
extramural grants and contracts with areas of research strength in cancer,
diabetes and geriatrics. Faculty are active at top levels guiding
international organizations and professional journals, conducting
innovative research, caring for patients and teaching state-of-the-art
medicine, dentistry, nursing and allied health. Students consistently win
national awards, score in the top ranks on professional skills and go on
to fill top clinical, teaching and research positions in Texas and
elsewhere. UTHSCSA has several international institutional agreements with
Russia, China, Mexico and other countries. UTHSCSA is one of several other
Health Science Centers in The University of Texas System including
Galveston, Houston, and Dallas.
