Texas Tech University (TTU)
Established in 1923, Texas Tech University (TTU), a contiguous campus of
1,839 acres, is located in the city center of Lubbock. Lubbock has a
metropolitan population of almost 200,000 residents situated in a large
agricultural area in the southern plains of the Texas Panhandle. The
University has a student population of almost 25,000 including 1,000
international students representing 96 countries. TTU carries the
distinction of being the largest comprehensive institution of higher
education in the western two-thirds of the state. Students choose fields
of study from among more than 150 undergraduate, 100 masters and 60
doctoral degree programs. More than 2,000 faculty members conduct classes
and research in the Law School, Graduate School and seven undergraduate
colleges: Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Architecture, Arts
and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Engineering and Human
Sciences. TTU's sister institution, Texas Tech University Health Sciences
Center, is housed in Lubbock with regional campuses in Amarillo, El Paso
and Odessa. The common Lubbock campus arrangement makes TTU the only
campus in the state with a comprehensive university, law school and a
medical school. Special resources at TTU include the newly constructed
International Cultural Center for conferences and educational programs,
the International Center for Arid and SemiArid Land Studies and the Center
for Applied International Development Studies. TTU maintains 20 memoranda
of agreement with universities in China, Japan, Germany, Italy, Malaysia,
Mexico, Peru, Poland and Turkey.
