This module aims to provide a foundational understanding of mental illnesses and how healthcare teams can begin to identify and treat them. Major topics that will be covered are defining and identifying mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, and alcohol use disorders, effective patient-centered communication, ways to improve patient adherence, and pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments for mental illness. The entire series will conclude with a unit dedicated to understanding and combating stigma. Ultimately, this course will equip participants with evidence-based essential knowledge which will allow them to compassionately care for patients who may be struggling with mental illness.
