TIEC is pleased to announce a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Award, made possible through our grant-funded program with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. This opportunity supports faculty from accredited institutions in the United States, Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates in designing and leading COIL Programs. Selected faculty partners will co-develop and deliver virtual, collaborative learning experiences that engage students in the healthcare field across regions, enhance intercultural competencies, and deepen shared understanding of global health issues. Projects may connect institutions across or within the target regions and are encouraged to foster dialogue, academic exchange, and potential pathways for sustainable healthcare partnerships.
Required Outcomes:
Global Health Perspectives
Provide students exposure to diverse healthcare systems, public health priorities, and medical practices across regions, encourage reflection on global challenges in health
Intercultural Collaboration
Develop students’ intercultural communication and teamwork skills by engaging them in structured meaningful interactions with their international peers.
Joint Academic Engagement
Facilitate co-design virtual learning activities - such as shared case studies or final group project - should be led by faculty from both institutions
Award Details
Funding Amount: $4,000 USD total per awarded COIL project
This amount is shared between the two faculty partners, each faculty member will receive $2,000 USD to support their participation in the program
Funds will be disbursed in two payments:
$2,000 USD at the start of the program once curriculum is submitted to TIEC
$2,000 USD upon successful completion of program activities and submission of final deliverables
Eligible Applicants: Faculty enrolled at a US, Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and UAE based institutions
Eligibility
Faculty from accredited higher education institutions in the United States, Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates are eligible to apply.
Each COIL proposal must include two faculty collaborators from two different institutions within the target countries listed above.
Cross-regional (e.g., U.S.–MENA) and intra-regional (e.g., MENA–MENA ) collaborations are both eligible and encouraged, provided the project promotes meaningful cross-institutional and intercultural learning.

Program Description: detailing objectives, partner institution, student engagement strategy, and connection to global health topics, curriculum platform
Timeline with major milestones
Letter of Support from institutional leadership
Outline of expected outcomes
Evaluation Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated based on:
Project Relevance and Clarity Clearly explains goals, activities, and alignment with global health and intercultural learning objectives.
Strength of Collaboration Demonstrates balanced, intentional partnership between faculty from two eligible institutions.
Student Engagement and Learning Outcomes Outlines how students will collaborate and what they are expected to learn through the exchange.
Feasibility and Implementation Plan Presents a realistic plan and timeline achievable within the program period and funding scope.
Use of Virtual Tools and Methods Identifies appropriate platforms and approaches for effective virtual collaboration
Deadline
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Once all available funds have been awarded, the application will close and no further submissions will be accepted.
