English Language and Culture Program with Mishima Senior High School (Japan)

TIEC conducts this summer English language and culture program in Austin, Texas for students from Nihon University-Mishima Senior High School, Mishima, Japan. The three-week program provides students and accompanying teachers with English language instruction, cultural information relevant to their stay in the U.S., cultural and social activities, field trips, and a weekend homestay experience.

Fulbright American Studies Institute for Korean Secondary School Teachers of English (Korea)

This program brings Korean secondary school teachers to Texas to gain a deeper understanding of American culture and life, and to experience American public education, particularly American ESL methodologies and practices. The seven-week program consists of three phases: Phase I – four-week Academic Residency in Austin; Phase II – two-week Secondary School Site Residency in a Texas school district outside of Austin; and Phase III – one-week Academic Residency in Austin to reflect and plan how to integrate newly acquired knowledge and skills into their teaching in Korea.

Local Government Officials Development Institute English Training Program (Korea)

This four-week training program for local government officials from the Republic of Korea, sponsored by the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs, includes both full-time intensive English language instruction daily, additonal professional seminars by specialists on topics related to local and state government and public service, and a robust schedule of educational and cultural visits in Austin and San Antonio.

Two-Year Twinning Program with Institut Teknologi MARA (ITM) (Malaysia)

TIEC operated a comprehensive, American-style branch campus for the first two years of university study for the Government of Malaysia. TIEC provided instructors, curricula, teaching materials, and equipment for the program in Malaysia which served 1,500 students. TIEC also assisted the placement of 1,100 of those students in universities in the U.S. More than 225 faculty from the U.S. conducted courses in Malaysia.

Overall Consulting for PetroVietnam University Project (Vietnam)

TIEC provided technical assistance to the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) for the design and development of PetroVietnam University, a training institution that features a strong career and applied science orientation to meet the needs of Vietnam’s petroleum industry. TIEC designed several key components of the University’s curricula, laboratories, and library, as well as its administrative, operational, and financial systems. The TIEC consultant team consisted of nine senior faculty and administrators in engineering and the geosciences from six Texas public universities, along with five distinguished Vietnamese scholars in the fields of higher education planning, management, and finance.
